Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

CBT was developed by Aaron T. Beck, PhD. CBT is an evidence-based treatment that focuses on the connection between thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is a structured, goal-oriented therapy that helps you identify and change unhelpful thought patterns and behaviors contributing to emotional distress. By adressing these thought patterns, you can create lasting, positive changes in your life. Your thoughts are incredibly powerful and have a signiciant impact on your emotional well-being and your behavioral patterns.

CBT sessions are collaborative. We work together to identify challenges and develop strategies to overcome them. In treatment, you will:

  1. Identifying Problematic Thoughts: Explore the automatic thoughts that may arise in specific situations and how they impact your emotions and actions.

  2. Challenging Negative Beliefs: Examine the evidence for and against these thoughts, replacing unhelpful beliefs with more balanced and constructive ones.

  3. Developing Coping Strategies: Emphasis on skill-building, such as relaxation techniques, problem-solving, and effective communication, to help manage stress and emotions.

  4. Behavioral Activation: Sometimes, avoiding certain activities or situations can worsen your emotional state. CBT encourages gradual re-engagement with meaningful activities to improve mood and motivation.

One of the primary benefits of CBT is its practicality and adaptability. It doesn’t just focus on "why" you feel a certain way but provides actionable steps to improve your mental health. It encourages you to learn how to think and respond utilizing different prespecives, enabling you to navigate life’s challenges with increased resilience and confidence.
